Some people call him Maurice, I call him a Putz

“He blew it! He tried to play to his Twitter crowd”

That’s how Skip Bayless described Maurice Jones-Drew’s excuse for ripping Jay Cutler after leaving Sunday’s NFC Title Game. http://es.pn/gHevVK

Bayless goes on to rip Jones-Drew “as the pot calling the kettle a quitter” - #32 opted not to play the last 2 games of the year due to minor injury, as his Jaguars were losing a shot at the playoffs.

Is Jones-Drew 8 years old? Seriously? His excuse was, “but I was just kidding?”
I seriously expect to hear that from a little kid who doesn’t know any better.

I was screaming about this on Monday morning. Say what you like about Jay Cutler, but he’s not a quitter.
So I called-out Jones-Drew, Kirk Morrison, Darnell Dockett, LeCharles Bentley, Lance Moore, Derrick Brooks, Anthony Armstrong and ESPN’s own, Trent Dilfer. (See stupidity in action: http://yhoo.it/fWAMAj)

Almost immediately, Anthony Armstrong tweeted me back, saying he apologized to Cutler.

I got to thinking – I wonder if the other ass-clowns had apologized.

Darnell Dockett is too busy comparing Derrick Rose and Rajon Rondo.

Lance Moore’s response, “No need to apologize for what I said last night about cutler. It sux to get hurt, but it looked like there wasn't that sense of urgency out of him to get back in a game of that magnitude. That's why I said it looked like he gave up on his team.” But Lance, you could try, but you couldn’t be more wrong!  You took a cheap shot at a guy – and now you have egg on your face – MAN UP and apologize.

Kirk Morrison tweeted, “If my knee was hurt or ACL/MCL/PCL sprain, I wouldn’t be standing on sideline”
What’s your point, Kirk? You were calling him a liar – questioning whether he was actually hurt, since he was standing. Morrison joined a sports talk show and said, “It was my opinion. I’m not only a player, but a fan and analyst.” What is this The Hair Club for Men? And ultimately he didn’t MAN UP! “I’m being critical of the situation – not Jay Cutler.” LOL – Really? That’s what you’re going with? Really, Kirk?

LeCharles Bentley joined “Mully & Hanley” WSCR 670 The Score in Chicago. Bentley said he didn’t criticize Cutler, but then did it again. “You can question whether a guy is truly in it for the right reasons!” Once again, Mr. Bentley … MAN UP! http://bit.ly/ecLh31 The worst part of this interview was Brian Hanley, who questioned Cutler for going to dinner and “walking up stairs” – are you serious? And Mike Mulligan started out the interview with Bentley saying Cutler looked like someone spilled his juice. Stay classy, San Diego!

The guy I respect most out of this group, Derrick Brooks, tweeted, “"HEY there is no medicine for a guy with no guts and heart" Nice one. I wasn’t able to find anything since Sunday. If you know of any more comments, be sure to leave a link in the comments section below.

And we close with Mr. Dilfer. Why are you even putting in your two cents? Didn’t you learn when you got bitch-slapped by LeBron for ripping Peyton Manning. You truly are the WORST QB to ever win a Super Bowl – and then get replaced the following year by Elvis Grbac. Shut up already! You talk out of both sides of your mouth and really should be quiet. I don’t even care what you said. Your QB bashing has gone on too long.

Some comments supporting Cutler:

Charles Barkley joined “Waddle & Silvy” on ESPN Radio 1000 in Chicago, “I think it was inappropriate and wrong to question a guy's heart. Now reporters, they're going to do what they want to. They're entitled to their opinion. But as players, I don't think it's appropriate to question another guy's heart. That crosses the line, because you don't know. If you go back and start looking at all the stuff that's been said, and clearly one of the more vocal critics was Maurice Jones-Drew, and then you find out he missed the last two games with a bad knee. And he was really the first guy who crucified Jay. You have to be careful, because in the two most important games of the year, he sat out with a bad knee. And then it really makes him look like an idiot now."

LeBron James, “I've been in Jay Cutler's shoes. So I know how it feels to have people saying you, you know, wasn't up for the task. He'll be all right. He'll come back next year, when he gets healthy, and help his team win.”
Dwayne Wade, ““As a competitor, I want him to be in there. But obviously, if he wasn't in there, he couldn't go. You cannot question Jay Cutler's toughness. I'm not going to question his toughness. When a guy get sacked 53 times or whatever the number is, and gets back up -- and when you're playing quarterback, you're tough. It's one of the toughest positions to play.”

The Blackhawks chimed in too…

Brian Campbell, “True warriors know what guys do. The guy has been sacked and beaten on how many times in the last two years and a he keeps going about his business. Yeah, maybe he doesn’t talk the best in the media but that’s him. Everybody is different, not everybody is Peyton Manning. He goes out and gets his job done and that’s all you want. Guys aren’t the best at everything but he’s good at playing football. That’s what Bears fans should be pretty happy about.”

Patrick Kane, ““I feel bad for the guy to be honest with you because it seems the fans are kind of after him and everyone is ripping him. From what his teammates and coaches are saying you have to trust their instincts to keep him out of the game.”

Social Media brings out the HATERS!

First off, what the hell are you thinking to question another player’s toughness via Twitter?

You know who you are!

Your names sound like Maurice Jones-Drew, Lance Moore, Derrick Brooks, LeCharles Bentley, Kirk Morrison and Darrell Dockett.

During the Championship Game – while you were watching like the rest of us – you apparently enjoyed psychic powers, enabling you to feel Jay Cutler’s pain – and then to determine that he’s such a piece of crap, that you should bash with NO first-hand knowledge about anything – except for which were the funniest commercials on TV!

Now we’ll see if these MANLY MEN are really what they pretend to be … MEN.

Will they apologize now that Cutler has been diagnosed with a torn MCL?

Or will they hide behind their avatars and superstar status. (that was a joke)

You can see their original tweets here - http://yhoo.it/fWAMAj

And while we’re speaking on dopes – let’s not forget the great Trent Dilfer, who opined that Cutler might as well hang up his pads – http://es.pn/grrUxw - Dilfer starts by saying nobody should question Cutler’s “toughness” and then turns around and … you guessed it … questions his “availability to his teammates” and his “mentality in this football game – the fact that he didn’t show the fight to get back into the game.”

Dilfer is either talking out of the other side of his mouth, is afraid of Jay Cutler whooping his ass, or is just too stupid to realize he was the one questioning Cutler’s toughness!

If you’d like their Twitter accounts, you can follow the dopes listed above – and get their football acumen for yourself – right from the horse’s ass!

P.S. – Here’s another story about Dilfer throwing stones at QB’s – and LeBron wasn’t having any of it - http://yhoo.it/eSr3ll

Bears 14, Packers 21 - Game Blog

@515pm - In the end, the Bears went the way of the Cutler today ... down on a knee, falling to the Packers 21-14. The score was closer than the game was played and the Halas Trophy goes to the Packers, their first trip since the 96-97 season.

Heroes of the Game:
Matt Forte
Caleb Hanie
Brian Urlacher

Goats of the Game:
Jay Cutler
Julius Peppers

The season comes to a close for the Bears. A great season that will probably be forgotten - except for the outcome. Damn, I hate the Packers!!!!!!!!
@5:10pm - 1st down Chester Taylor!

@5:09pm - 4th and 1 coming up near midfield - this is a "must have" or the Bears won't likely see the ball again this season. Now the much maligned offensive line can prove their worth - or not.

@5:06pm - Hanie has been kinda impressive ... I mean it's like the '83 White Sox, very "ugly." Big throw to Olsen for a 1st down - the first 3rd down conversion on the game for the Bears. And then the zebras step-in again with a "grounding" call - desite receivers in the 'hood.

@5:03pm - 3rd and 12 and DOWN GOES RODGERS! The Packers are punting to Hester ... (hear tis beating fast) ... nothing happening. The Bears have NEVER won a postseason game when trailing by more than 7 points. WOW!

1st and 10 on 29 with 2:53 to play ...

@4:56pm - I'm having a Cubs moment. By that I mean, the Bears - seemingly watching the end to thier season - have given us hope that they could pull this out. I know there's a ice cube's chance in hell of the comeback, but ... my inner Cub-fan allows me to dream ... and be destroyed again and again ... and again. But here we go ... it's 21-14 after a quick Hanie TD pass. 4:43 to go in regulation and time for the onside kick. Bears kick deep and stop Charles Woodson at the 26.

@4:50pm - The Bears season just unofficially came to an end, as BJ Raji intercepted Caleb Hanie. Raji dropped back into pass coverage over the middle, snagging what was an attempted slant pattern and took it into the endzone for a touchdown and a 21-7 Packers lead over the Bears. Green Bay is about to even-up their postseason record versus the Bears and earn a trip to the Super Bowl.

@4:48pm - Quick throws - if they're open for Rodgers - will destroy the Bears! He is too good at doing it - have to mix up the looks he's getting. Big stop by the Bears on 3rd and short. Izzy with the pressure forces the bad throw. Can Hester work some magic? Nope. And terrible field position for the Bears again. Not being mentioned a whole lot, but the Bears are used to starting - at the very worst - at their own 34 yard line. Seems like many of today's possessions have started insider their own 20. UPDATE: 5 possessions for the Bears have started at or inside their own 20 yard line.

@4:44pm - Hanie getting hit by BJ Raji might have been a blessing in disguise. Packers defender was waiting for that ball - and could've been a pick-6. But alas, a 3-and-out, 0-for-9 on 3rd downs. That's pretty bad. Weak punt, giving good field for Green Bay. Where's the 'mo now?

@4:38pm - Looks as though the bit hit from Peppers has amped up the Packers more than the home team. It wasn't pretty, but on 3rd and 2 from the Bears 43 yard line - Defense makes the STOP! This could potentially being a turning point - Bears score, come in and rough up Rodgers and then get the ball back. Momentum is favoring the Bears!

@4:33pm - There seems to be some life in the crowd at Soldier Field. Defense is standing up - Julius Peppers absolutely destroyed Rodgers - and got a "roughing the passer" penalty - TERRIBLE CALL!

I know that the crown of the helmet hit Rodgers, but what the hell was he supposed to do? Aikman is crying about it on Fox, but he's a QB apologist. That was a horrendous call by the zebras!

@4:29pm - Hanie with a big connection with Knox ... and the Bears are showing life, with 1st and Goal from the 1 yard line. TOUCHDOWN CHESTER TAYLOR!!!! It's now a 1-score game, with the Packers holding onto a 14-7 lead in the 4th Qtr. Is this the life the Bears "O" needed breathed into them? Big story will be how Aaron Rodgers responds. Defense needs a stop more than ever this season.

@4:28pm - Matt Forte is the only bright spot on offense. Now, with Hanie in, there's more room for Forte because they have to respect the pass. And the Bears will need the pass in order to come from behind.

@4:27pm - Cutler doesn't know when he got hurt. I couldn't tell either. Hhmmm. I wonder.

@4:23pm - As I suggested minutes ago, Caleb Hanie is the Bears best chance at Victory! His mobility - and the fact that he doesn't move like the Tin Man (before he got lubed up) - means Hanie is a better option. Can he do it? Umm, probably not. Would I love it? Of course! Take that, Don Majkowski!

@4:20pm - Yet another opportunity for the offense, as Urlacher and the boys play great and give them potentially good field position. But, Hester musters nothing on the return. Another chance - penalty forces the Packers to punt again!

@4:15pm - Old Style tastes much better when the Bears are winning.

@4:09pm - Great coverage by the Bears on a big 3rd down stop, forcing the Packers to punt. Yet again, the Bears have a chance to get some of the 'mo back. Instead, Hester falls on the punt return and gains only 2 yards. Is it ridiculous to suggest that the Bears have a better chance of winning with Caleb Hanie?

@4:01pm - The Bears should feel blessed to be down by only 14 to the Packers. They haven't won in any phase of the game. What about the 4th phase? I can't tell from my couch.

@3:52pm - Jay Cutler will be leaving the game in favor of Todd Collins. Seriously, this isn't good. I know that's not really news, but WTF - Todd Collins looks like he won a contest at halftime and gets to come out and throw a couple passes! This is akin to bringing in LaTroy Hawkins in the 9th to close out a win. It's a no-win situation.

@3:49pm - The Aaron Rodgers Show is back on the air. He's carving the Bears up. He's such an intelligent QB. Very few mistakes. Chris Meyers of Fox reports, "Lovie wasn't sure if he'd go with Cutler or Collins" to start the 2nd half. It doesn't look good.

@3:46pm - Players of the game for the Bears, thus far ... Brad Maynard and Peanut Tillman.

@3:44pm - Fox is reporting that Jay Cutler limped out of the locker room with a knee injury - to go along with the Curt Schilling-like bloody elbow. His body language - is as usual bad - not sure if it's his head or knee hurting him worse. Nothing seems to be working - and he's already taking too many risks. If the Bears have ANY chance of coming back, they will need #6 under center. Todd Collins = End of Season.

@3:25 - Jay Cutler has thrown his 1st INT - could easily been his 2nd or 3rd if not for help by his offensive teammates. Not a good half for the Bears. Wow. Feels like 28-0.

@3:15pm - The Bears offense is getting impatient and anxious – and dare I say, desperate. Jay Cutler can thank Matt Forte and Greg Olsen, who prevented interceptions by the Packers on the same drive late in the 2nd quarter. Cutler has been getting hit, isn’t getting a lot of time and has blood coming from his elbow – let’s hope he doesn’t regress back to early-season form. I don’t like the way this is going.

@3:08pm - I've been watching football for plenty of years, and I'm curious why Greg Jennings was rubbing Aaron Rodger's leg before a big 3rd down stop by the Bears with 5 minutes to go in the 1st half. Whatever he did, do it again! Packers will punt. The bounce on this punt - could it turn out to be a momentum changer? The ball hit inside the 5-yard line and then took a Bears bounce beyond the 10-yard line. Here come the Hawks ... err, Bears.

@3:00 - That was a HUGE holding call against Chester Taylor and the Bears, setting up 2nd and 20 at the 41 - big response by Cutler with a good run of 9 yards. But yet again, another punt. This is not good. Corey Graham with the "almost" great play on the punt, but as this day has gone, it continues to go for the Bears.

@2:50pm - Like a warm knife through butter, the Packers offense goes right through for a 14-0 lead in the 2nd quarter. I like Rodgers and admire his QB abilities, but he is NOT this good. I'm about to vomit.

@2:45 - Packers are giving the Bears some breaks - Tramon fumbled the punt and then a fals start negates a 1st down pass play. Like the way the Bears D continues to swarm to the ball.

@2: 39 - I know the Bears are running with minimal result, but they have to keep stuffing in down the Green Bay defense. This will come back later in a beneficial way, as Cutler's passing lanes open up.

@2: 37 - SACK MAN! Urlacher with a big defensive play! The Bears really needed that! Good coverage and a loss of 8 yards.

@2: 34 - My son just told me that should he become a pro athlete, he'll make sure Mom and I have front-row seats, backstage passes and anything we want to eat. So, I got that going for me.

@2:30pm - I'm an admiited hater of the "Never missed a Super Bowl Club" - yes, I'm jeealous!

@2:26pm - Bears finally get a hit on Rodgers, but only because he launched it 50 yards and needed time to dropback. Big 3rd down - BIG DEFENSIVE STOP! Peppers was there, but c'mon, Man, hit his arm or something. Make something happen.

@2:24pm - Troy Aikman is dead-on via Fox TV - "Julius Peppers has to be a factor" ... Bears defense continues to get punched in the face on the ground and through the air. No pressure whatsoever.

@2:20pm - Nice catch and throw from Cutler to Forte. Cutler is 0-for-1 on shoulda-coulda - missed Devin Hester on what could have been a big gainer. Pack gets the ball back.

@2:12pm - Bears defense not looking good. Plenty of bending, not a lot of breaking. Aaron Rodgers looks smooth - like the Bears D isn't even there. Packers score on Rodgers run to lead 7-0. Ugh.

Alright, let's try this ...

Living in Chicago, there are no shortage of jokes aimed towards our friends to the North. I'm sure they have insults to snicker when we breach the Cheddar Curtain as well. So here goes ... in the comments section below, tell your favorite joke about Bears fans or Packers fans. (thanks to Bill for the idea)

Bears Better Put Foot in Packer Arse!

A Super matchup for a trip to the Super Bowl

It’s odd to discover that the Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers, who have combined to win over 1,300 games in their storied histories – and to play one another nearly 200 times – have only done so once in the postseason. That first battle came 69 years ago; just 1 week after the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor, on December 14, 1941. The Bears would win that contest 33-14 and claim yet another NFL Title a week later with a victory over the New York Giants.

The Bears – the winningest franchinse in NFL history with 704 – and the Packers – second on the list with 664 – will take the field this Sunday in the NFC Championship Game at Soldier Field. Chicago will look for their 2nd trip to the Super Bowl in 5 years, having lost to Peyton Manning and the Colts in Super Bowl XLI. Green Bay was last in the Super Bowl against the Denver Broncos in XXXII – also a loss.

While both teams boast above average defenses – each finishing in the top-6 in the NFL this season for least points allowed per game - this game should come down to the Quarterbacks. Aaron Rodgers is arguably the hottest QB of the remaining 4 teams, while Jay Cutler is coming off a 4 TD performance en-route to the NFC title game. Rodgers is the better signal-caller, but Cutler has the assistance of Matt Forte in the backfield, while Rodgers rides the back of a rookie RB James Starks.

The oddsmakers are favoring the Packers in enemy territory. Who do you think will win? Add your comments below.

5-Star Recruit Picks Irish over Penn State and Syracuse

In one of the strangest recruiting cycles in recent memory - and that's saying alot - Ishaq Williams, the 29th-ranked high school football player in the country finally committed ... to Notre Dame. Williams was a DE in high school but will play LB in South Bend.

Williams, a US Army All-American, give the Irish some much needed help on the front-7. The Charlie Weis years were good for the offense, but the defense was like a red-headed stepchild. Snagging Manti T'eo from Hawaii last year and now Ishaq this recruiting season, fans in South Bend are dancing a jig.

Still on tap for the Irish ... keeping recruit Stephon Tuitt, a 5-star DL, and securing the services of Aaron Lynch, another nationally ranked defender with special skills.

What would you do ... ooh ooh ... for Bears-Packers tickets?

It's the longest rivalry in NFL history - dating back 90 years - with the Bears leading the series 92-83-6.

And now they will face one another for only the 2nd time in NFL history - in the playoffs. The Bears and Packers will face-off in the NFC Championship Game this weekend with a trip to the Super Bowl on the line.

The only other battle between the two teams in the postseason came in 1941 - just 7 days after the attack at Pearl Harbor, when the Bears emerged victorious 33-14. A week later, Chicago would beat the New York Giants for the NFL Title.
Ticket services are selling tickets starting at about $500 and going well into the thousands for primo seats.  That's a lot of loot for the average Joe. So I got to thinking - if you couldn't afford to buy tickets, but could offer something of value in trade (that you own) - what would you give up to attend this potentially epic battle.

Share your trades in the comment section below!

College Recruiting is an Ugly Game

As much as I love following college football recruiting, I often feel like I need to shower after reading message boards affiliated with a lot of different universities.

The Parents
While there are some parents who may favor their own opinions and goals over their son’s, for the most part they seem pretty supportive. For every Cam Newton situation, you’ll find parents of kids like Aaron Lynch and Ishaq Williams – parents who will support their children and force adults making promises to be held accountable. These Moms and Dads don’t take any crap – will lay down the hammer on anyone who talks smack about their kids. College recruiting needs more of them of the Lynch’s and Williams’.

The Fans
Whether you’ve worn the school’s colors – or just happen to be a fan, some of these people are absolutely out of their minds! They make excuses for players already on the roster and shower recruits with compliments, only to turn around and criticize and ridicule 18-year old kids who decide on another destination. Many fans are so blinded by their affection for said school that they don’t listen to themselves. Because if they had – or had shared their thoughts with a Wife/Daughter – they’d be ashamed.

The Boosters / Recruiting sites
These sites range from sane to comical – and everywhere in between. While all are slanted in their views, some sites attempt to keep peace and rationale as a standard. Others encourage the stupidity, because after all, keeping those folks who pay $9.95 per month happy is what it’s all about. The reason I’m ranting on this topic today is a back-and-forth I read between www.OrangeFizz.com – a site dedicated to Syracuse Athletics – and the Father of Ishaq Williams. At some point, the author of this article … http://bit.ly/gmXpK3 ... decided he knew what was best for Ishaq, moreso than Mr. Williams.

A site administrator or staff member who goes by the name of “D.A.” – (you can decide what the initials stand for) – dropped the hammer on Mr. Williams for among other things, stirring the pot by wearing hats of different schools recruiting his son – or for wanting his son to become “a household name across America.” Didn’t you know that good parents don’t want their children to have success?

Mr. Williams responded to the criticism from OrangeFizz, “i am Ishaq’s father and i don’t frankly care how you feel about the fact that i attended your alma mater (both parents are Syracuse Alums). You have obviously been studying my statements and actions (with the hats) and now you say my priorities are mixed up? it’s seems you are deluded, but i am not. you make money off of carrying this type of news, i don’t. i am looking for the best situation for my son. if he injures himself and can no longer play football, neither you nor any of your readers will care about him or what hat i am wearing. we said all schools were equal and we meant it. i guess if you don’t like my statements, that is your choice. you should at least thank me for giving you something to write about. in the end it is all entertainment. I’m not hard to reach. and yes, the possibility of my son becoming a household name across america is appealing to me. how dare you question my priorities? are you not entertained. my son is in the position that he is in because of guidance, not a wicked 40 time!”

Well done, Mr. Williams.

I’m guessing with parents like this – Ishaq will be just fine – whether he chooses Syracuse, Penn State or Notre Dame.

Never Judge A Book By It's Cover

The internet is full of so much crap, that it's essential to point out when something just makes you laugh. My friend Otto posted this on his Facebook page yesterday - and I had to share. Props to Otto!

We walk around everyday and judge others based on how they appear to us. "People Watching" is actually pretty fun, but I'm guessing, not very accurate. The guy in this video will trip you out. If I were blind - and rich - I would hire this guy to narrate my life, like my personal GPS.

Mr. Williams will apparently get a makeover and a chance at some work ... http://aol.it/dZJRJH

Perfect Timing !!!

Admittedly biased, I prefer picture #24. Take a look at 31 really cool pictures capturing sports at its best - and worst. Sometimes you're the horse, and sometimes you're the head. Some ass whoopins, lots of mis-placed junk and some good ole fashioned danger. http://bit.ly/h5PWSb

Catholics vs. Convicts, and more!

Not even a loss to the despised Packers could ruin my weekend, after Notre Dame racked up their second consecutive win in a Bowl Game, beating "The U" of Miami 33-17 in the Sun Bowl.

Bowl wins haven't come easy for the Irish, so it's especially nice to have beaten USC along the way, and having watched Michigan suck the tailpipe vs. Mississippi State - losing by 38 points!

When it rains it pours. I'm very eager to see how the Jim Harbaugh situation plays out. Harbaugh going to the NFL, no coach at Michigan, new coach at Florida, chaos at Texas and suddenly South Bend is looking like a destination for high school recruits. I love it!

Now ... some random thoughts:
* I don't care what the Director of the Chicago Park District says. Get rid of that crappy grass at Soldier Field. I have better turf in my dog run.
* The Bulls are ranked 5th in ESPN's Power Rankings - I can't help but wonder how Rose, Boozer and LeBron would be doing right now.
* Ron Franklin was fired by ESPN for making condescending remarks to a female co-worker
(http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=5988804) - You'd think he would have learned after being slapped on the hand for calling Holly Rowe "Sweetheart" during a Notre Dame-Purdue game in 2006.

What do you think?

Yo it's about that time to bring forth the rhythm and the rhyme

Rather than continue to scream at the television - and/or - yell at the guy on the radio, I've decided to put my thoughts in writing and hopefully be interesting enough to elicit a response from YOU!

That's right. You! When was the last time you went to a blog and they talked about you? I do so because I'm different like that. I like you. I want to hear from you. I may not agree with you, but that's ok too.

So ... what's this blog about? Obviously not "just" sports.

I'm a well-rounded (literally and figuratively) guy, so I won't corner myself with a sports-only mantra. I want to spread my wings. Topics up for discussion are ... well, almost anything ... television, movies, Women and yes, even politics!

This will be a “stream of consciousness” blog that hopefully resembles some kind of coherent thoughts. My goal is to present you – the most important person in the world – with my thoughts – the most important in my brain. At that point, you can tell me I’m a genius, that I don’t know jack or that you really dig my bald dome. Either way is fine.

So, here we go. No more yelling at the television. Gone are the days of screaming at the radio because a Host or Caller said something stupid. I’m officially a keyboard-badass! You game?
