It’s odd to discover that the Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers, who have combined to win over 1,300 games in their storied histories – and to play one another nearly 200 times – have only done so once in the postseason. That first battle came 69 years ago; just 1 week after the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor, on December 14, 1941. The Bears would win that contest 33-14 and claim yet another NFL Title a week later with a victory over the New York Giants.
The Bears – the winningest franchinse in NFL history with 704 – and the Packers – second on the list with 664 – will take the field this Sunday in the NFC Championship Game at Soldier Field. Chicago will look for their 2nd trip to the Super Bowl in 5 years, having lost to Peyton Manning and the Colts in Super Bowl XLI. Green Bay was last in the Super Bowl against the Denver Broncos in XXXII – also a loss.
While both teams boast above average defenses – each finishing in the top-6 in the NFL this season for least points allowed per game - this game should come down to the Quarterbacks. Aaron Rodgers is arguably the hottest QB of the remaining 4 teams, while Jay Cutler is coming off a 4 TD performance en-route to the NFC title game. Rodgers is the better signal-caller, but Cutler has the assistance of Matt Forte in the backfield, while Rodgers rides the back of a rookie RB James Starks.
The oddsmakers are favoring the Packers in enemy territory. Who do you think will win? Add your comments below.
